Identify someone in your life toward whom you need to change your heart.
Consider if there is anyone in your life you have limited your love due to particular requirements you have placed on them. I.e. “he does not love me,” “she does not respect me,” “he needs to earn my respect,” etc.
Confess your sin to the Lord (1 John 1:9) and repent. Put off loving only those you approve and put on loving all people indiscriminately.
Identify ways you can show love indiscriminately, especially consider those on whom you have put limits.
Using 1 Cor. 13:4-7 and Gal. 5:22-23 as your measurement, plan specific ways you can and will love that person(s).
Consider and brainstorm with others how you can specifically show love to all those around you.
In what ways can you show kindness to the server who is treating you rudely or messing up your order?
In what ways can you show love to the telemarketer who calls at an inconvenient hour?
What can you do to show patience and gentleness to the family member who pushes your buttons or seems so insensitive?
Love one of those people in a specific way this week.
- Write a note of encouragement.
- Buy them a gift.
- Serve them in some way.
- Smile at them.
- Engage them kindly rather than avoid them completely.
Come prepared to share with others how you “went and did likewise” (Luke 10:37).
