Resources for Battling Laziness in Your Spiritual Disciplines

Written by Brad Merchant on

While preaching against the perils of laziness, Charles Spurgeon once remarked, “We are busy about a thousand things, but sluggish about our souls.”

When we become addicted to our to-do lists it is easy for our Bibles to become dusty, our prayer closets to grow dark, and our hearts to turn dull towards God. We need the ordinary means of grace to enjoy our extraordinary, gracious King.

One of the best ways to pursue communion with God is through Bible reading and prayer. Set aside a time each day to slow your heart and attune your heart to God’s presence by meditating on his Word and giving him your burdens in prayer.

Below you’ll find a list of resources to help you. This list includes Bible reading plans, devotional resources, prayer prompts, and other ideas for pursuing God throughout everyday life.

Pursuing Godliness Through Spiritual Disciplines

God is willing to give you as much of himself as you want. His mercies are new. His grace is sufficient. Open up your Bible, humble your heart, and watch God move powerfully as you spend time with him.
