On His Own

Written by Jenny Brake on

On God’s own heart, with love in mind,

Fashioned heavenly hosts, blue water, and land,

He filled the earth with all of life,

But the best was when he created man.

On their own in the garden, they dwelt with God,

Paradise found, yet paradise lost,

For when they betrayed him, their eyes were closed,

To God’s great plan, at their own cost.

But, on his own, the Savior came,

The Son of God nailed to a tree,

To pay the price for the garden gone,

Opened closed eyes, once blind, now see.

So, on my own, I come to him,

Self-serving left behind,

His ways, his will for all my life,

I follow close behind.

The God who on his own did send,

The Son who on his own would die,

So the One whose Spirit could dwell in us,

And lead us to everlasting life.

Now, on our own the church as one,

reflects his heart, his plan,

And with the Spirit’s help to guide,

He leads us hand in hand.

And to the world we go and tell,

He’s truth, the life, the way,

Together as the bride of Christ,

‘til he comes for us one day.

The God who on his own did send,

The Son who on his own would die,

So the one whose Spirit could dwell in us,

And lead us to everlasting life.
