Reading #37     King Solomon     1 Kings 2:1-3:28

Reading #38     Solomon's Temple     1 Kings 8:1-9:9
The presence of God is an important Biblical theme beginning in the earliest chapters of Genesis. This presence of God was interrupted because of sin, but through God’s grace He promises to continue to bless people with His presence. God’s presence was evident in Solomon’s temple (1 Kings 8:10). The manifestation of God’s presence is seen all over the Bible: Matthew 1:23; John 1:14; Matthew 28:20; Exodus 33:14; Psalm 16:11.

Reading #39     Elijah and the Prophets of Baal     1 Kings 16:29-19:18

Reading #40     The Fall of Jerusalem     2 Kings 25:1-30

WEEK OF FEB 19  |  THE RISE OF ISRAEL

Reading #31     Samuel Listens to God     1 Samuel 1:1-3:21
This book is about listening to what God has to say. He spoke to prophets so that they could record and pass down what God had taught them. They wrote about who God is, what He does, and how much He loves us. The Bible is filled with instructions on how to live a godly life. Sometimes we have those moments when we think God is speaking directly to us whether it's through a message or a song. I encourage you to keep your hearts and minds open to what God has to say. Mark 4:24, Proverbs 2:1-5, Luke 8:21, Matt 4:4, 2 Timothy 3:16.

Reading #32     King Saul     1 Samuel 8:1-10:27

Reading #33     David and Goliath     1 Samuel 16:1-18:16
David’s faith in God caused him to look at Goliath in a different perspective. He looked at the battle from God’s point of view. If we look at our problems and seemingly difficult situations from God’s perspective, we realize that God will fight with us and for us.  We can’t see like His perfect vision, but we can let Him, through His Word, tell us what He sees. See 2 Peter 1:4 and 1 John 3:2 about resembling God’s character.  See Romans 8:31; Psalm 56:4; Psalm 27:1 about not being afraid. If our God is with us, who can stand against us?

Reading #34     David and Saul     1 Samuel 23:7-24:22     Going Deeper Guide

Reading #35     King David     2 Samuel 5:1-7:29

WEEK OF FEB 12   |  THE JUDGES

Reading #26     Israel's Disobedience     Judges 2:6-3:6
After Joshua died, Israel began a downward spiral filled with chaos and unhappiness. The people turned away from God and worshiped the gods of Baal. The LORD's wrath burned against Israel but He never gave up on them. He continued to send various people to help bring them back. God will always fight for us. We cannot even imagine how God will act on our behalf. He will do far greater things for us than we can possibly understand now. Check out these additional verses to explore this theme more: 2 Kings 6:15-18, Isaiah 64:4, 1 Peter 5:8-9, and John 16:33.

Reading #27     Deborah Leads Israel     Judges 4:1-5:31

Reading #28     Gideon Defeats Midianites     Judges 6:1-7:25
Gideon believed in God's promise and proved that he had faith by attacking a huge army with only 300 men that God had selected. If we trust in God and His Word during our weakness, He will come through.  Here are some verses about trusting in God and His faithfulness to us: 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, Lamentations 3:22-23, 2 Timothy 2:13, and 1 Corinthians 1:9.

Reading #29     Samson Defeats the Philistines     Judges 13:1-16:31

Reading #30     The Story of Ruth     Ruth 1:1-4:22

WEEK OF FEB 5  |  THE LAW AND THE LAND

Reading #21     The Ten Commandments     Exodus 19:1-20:21
The 10 Commandments are filled with wisdom on how to live a fruitful life. God gave us these laws so that we could glorify Him in whatever we do. Yaweh demands loyalty and He is worthy of all honor, praise, and worship. Psalm 18:30, Psalm 19:7-11, Revelation 5:12, 1 Corinthians 10:31, John 14:23-24, and John 15. We are called to obey. In obedience we find freedom, liberty, and power. In obedience we find Christ!

Reading #22     The Golden Calf     Exodus 32:1-34:35
The golden calf is one the most famous examples of idolatry. Even after an amazing demonstration of God's saving power, the children of Israel create a false god, a metal idol, and worship it. When we put anything in front of God, we're living dangerously, because He does not hesitate to judge idolatry. Read Exodus 20:3-6 to see God's commands about idolatry. We all have idols that we struggle with- things that we care more about than God. However, Exodus 20:6 ends with a statement about God's love.  It's only in focusing on God that we can truly avoid worshiping other things. Read Psalm 86:11 and make it your prayer. God is awesome and he is jealous for our affections!

Reading #23     Joshua Succeeds Moses     Joshua 1:1-18
Joshua 1 repeats the phrase "be strong and courageous" a couple times. There are many verese of encouragement from God's word to help you overcome your fears to become strong and courageous. 1 Chronicles 28:20, Psalm 27:1, Isaiah 41:10, 1 Corinthians 16:13 tells that if God is with us whom then shall we fear?

Reading #24     Crossing the Jordan      Joshua 3:1-4:24
God helped the Israelites cross the Jordan so that they would see how great He is. (4:23-24) There are many other examples in the Bible of God doing things to show people His greatness. In Exodus, after God sent the plague of the frogs, Pharaoh told Moses to ask God to get rid of the frogs. Moses told Pharaoh that God would do it so that Pharaoh would see that there is no one like God. Read Exodus 8:8-10. Also, when the Israelites were getting ready to cross the Red Sea, God said that He would save the Israelites from the Egyptians so that they would see how great He is. Read Exodus 14:30-31. God does all things in order to bring glory to Himself. No one is more passionate about God's glory than God Himself. Isaiah 48:11. There is no one like our God!

Reading #25     The Fall of Jericho     Joshua 5:13-6:27

WEEK OF JAN 29

Reading #16   Birth of Moses   Exodus 1:1-2:25
A promise that God gives His children is that He will complete His work in us. This is exactly what God did with Moses. God helped Moses grow up in a safe home as the adopted son of the pharaoh. He wanted to help Moses grow so that he could one day save God's people. God put Moses in a position of leadership which helped Moses do exactly that. God does not leave us where we are, but He strives to help us grow. God is working in us to make us more like Jesus. Ephesians 4:14-16, 1 Peter 2:2, 2 Peter 3:18, Philippians 1:6, Romans 8:28-29

Reading #17   The Burning Bush   Exodus 3:1-4:17

Reading #18   The Ten Plagues   Exodus 6:28-11:10
God sent the ten plagues to Egypt, because the Egyptians worshiped false gods. These ten plagues were not just random; God specifically designed these plagues to defy some of the Egyptian gods. We are called to fear God and His judgment. To understand more about fearing God’s judgment see Matthew 10:28 and Luke 12:5. In 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10 shows how God’s judgment is righteous and see that it has a balance between perfect love and perfect justice.

Reading #19   Passover and Exodus   Exodus 12:1-42    Going Deeper Guide
In verse 13, the LORD said that if a house had the blood of the lamb on it, then He would pass over that house and not kill the firstborn of that house. This is a great picture of what Jesus' blood can do for us. Romans 3:25 tells us that because Jesus died for us, God passes over our sins. Romans 5:9 and Ephesians 1:7 talk about how Christ's blood saves us from the wrath that God has because of sin. Because of Christ's blood we can go from being God's enemies to being His beloved children! Revelation 1:5, Colossians 1:20-22.

Reading #20   Crossing the Red Sea   Exodus 13:17-14:31

CHRONOLOGICAL READING PLANS: Read the Bible as its events occurred in real time. For example, Job lived sometime after the beginning of creation (Genesis 1) but before Abraham was born (Genesis 12). As a result, the Book of Job is integrated into the Book of Genesis.
