Our regular Prison Ministry is to the Boys’ School in Plainfield and the Girls’ School on the west side, both juvenile facilities. These are teenage young people that average a one year sentence. We have a Bible study and we also do one-on-one mentoring and life skills teaching. Volunteers are needed who are over the age of 21 and have a desire to reach these kids in a compassionate way. Participation requires an orientation for one evening and a criminal background check. We ask that volunteers be available one or two evenings per month. We will plug you in where you feel the most comfortable serving: music, instrument, teaching, helper, life skills teacher, mentor or providing snacks. Contact: Gary Furr – 299-0504 Kids’ Church Kid’s Church is a ministry to children in the inner-city, specifically located on the near east side of downtown. This ministry exists with the objective of evangelizing children through high energy worship services and networking with inner-city churches. Each Thursday after school and Saturday mornings we meet at Brookside Community Center for a time of fun and exciting worship as we show these children the love of Christ. Some 225 children regularly attend the Saturday program. Volunteers are needed for set-up, teaching, food, transportation, sitting with the kids, clean-up and more. There are various levels of commitment, whether scheduled or walk-in—we can use you! Contact: John & Cindy Schmidler – 733-0115 Angel Tree Angel Tree is a ministry of Prison Fellowship Ministries. Each Christmas, this program provides Christmas gifts to the children of prisoners on behalf of their parent in prison. In mid-November, we will put out a Christmas tree in the church foyer with tags on it. Each tag has instructions for buying gifts for a specific child (sizes, toy “wishes”). Anyone wishing to participate may take one or more tags and fulfill the gift needs of the child listed. Volunteers are needed starting in October to call Angel Tree children’s guardians to get requests and sizes, etc. We also need volunteers to deliver gifts and purchase some gifts when money is given.
