Volunteer

PRESCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY ABSENT VOLUNTEER FORM

Nursery

The nursery (4 months - 24 months) is the launching pad for nurturing the faith in the next generation. Our desire for our infants at College Park Church is that they would hear the truths of God at an early age. We pray that this would help start building their foundation of faith that will be built on throughout their life. Our volunteers show our infants and toddlers God's love by providing a place of prayer where our children hear Bible truth statements, Bible stories, and begin memorizing scripture.

Bible Themes

When you drop your child off in their classroom you will see 12 canvas prints hanging on the wall. These canvases are the Bible truths that are repeated often to your child in the nursery. To reinforce at home please see the list of Bible truths here.

Foundation Verses

In the nursery toddler classroom our children will begin to start one memory verse a month.  We believe that starting speaking the Word to our children at a young age is important.  These verses are designed to help nurture our infants growth in the truth and help build a foundation for them to stand on. Parents will be given a printed copy of these memory verses to reinforce memorization and application at home.

For a digital copy please click here.

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum being taught in our Nursery is Children Desiring God: A Sure Foundation nursery and toddler.  This curriculum has been designed to transform our nursery and toddler ministry into a place of prayer for young children where they will hear foundational Bible stories, learn simple Bible truths, and begin to memorize Scripture as they form their language skills and provide them with "A Sure Foundation!"

Preschool

Our Preschool (2 years - 4 years) continues to build on the foundation that was started in the nursery by walking the children through God’s Word. Our toddlers work through 13 lessons four times a year, that help our toddlers learn truths about our God and His Word. Our 3 and 4 year olds are taken through the Bible over the 2 years they are in the preschool area. During their first year our volunteers will teach and walk them through the Old Testament and during their second year they will teach and walk them through the New Testament. Our prayer is that our children will build a big picture of God, His Word, and start laying a firm Biblical doctrine.

Preschool 1

Children 2 years old as of August of the current school year will be in one of our three 2-year-old classrooms (Preschool 1a, 1b, or 1c).  Classrooms are divided during the 9:45 a.m. service time. During the 8 & 11:30 a.m. service times all 2-year-olds meet in Preschool 1b together.

Elementary

Our Elementary children walk through different curriculum throughout each grade that points them to the Truth and the character of God. Our desire is to provide our children with chronological Bible stories, Biblical theology, systematic theology, moral instruction, and the gospel.  Our prayer is that our children would hear what is being taught in the classroom and would learn how to apply it to their life.  We desire our children to be doers of the Word not just hearers (James 1:22-25).

Awana

AWANA stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" and comes from 2 Timothy 2:15. The goal of the AWANA ministry is to teach children who Jesus is, help them to learn the Word of God, and train them to apply the Bible's teachings to their lives. It is our desire to partner with parents in training children to know, love and serve God.

AWANA meets every Wednesday evening from 6:15 - 8:15 p.m. during the school year for children ages 3 - 6th grade.

Read this important letter from Pastor David Michael regarding changes to the Trek & Journey programs.

Truth & Training (T&T) – 3rd through 6th grade

These children are deep into Scripture and learning how it affects their day-to-day lives at home and at school.  Not only are they memorizing Scripture, but they are learning to defend their faith and give an answer for the hope that lies within them.  T&T engages 3rd-6th graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ’s grace.

Frequently Asked Questions about Awana

Are you new to AWANA this year?  Or are you confused about something in the AWANA ministry?  Check out our Frequently Asked Questions, and see if that helps!

What are "shares"? And what is the Awana store?

Shares are earned by clubbers to purchase items in the Awana store about two times each year.  Clubbers earn shares by completing handbook sections, participating in Theme Nights, wearing their uniform, bringing their Bible, bringing a friend to Outreach Nights, and may receive shares for exhibiting outstanding character during club time (at leader's discretion).  The Awana store is a designated room where the clubbers are able to spend their shares for various fun items that they can take home.  If your child brings home some fun items after an Awana night, don't worry: it was probably because they spent the shares which they earned at the Awana store!

What is a "Theme Night"?

A Theme Night is an Awana evening where Sparks and Truth & Training clubbers are encouraged to dress up or do something according to a certain theme.  Theme Nights include "Who Is Your Hero Night?" on where clubbers can dress as their favorite hero (real-life or make-believe) and "Give Thanks Night" on where clubbers can bring a thank you note for their Awana leaders.  Participating in a Theme Night earns each clubber one share they can spend later at the Awana store.  Birthday Nights are a night when birthdays and half-birthdays that occur during that month are recognized by a club leader. All of our Awana Theme Nights are described on our Awana Calendar.

Does my child need a uniform? Or a new uniform?

If a child is new to Awana or has moved up into a new club, they need to receive a new uniform in order to receive the patches and jewels that they earn.  However, a uniform is not required to participate in a club.  A uniform can be purchased by completing a purchase envelope and paying with check or cash and submitting the payment envelope to the Awana Welcome Desk.
